Are the crocs weighing at 6.8 oz apiece? It's a little hard to confirm 100% such is the weight. What size? and what model of Croc? Maybe the REI Crocs are a different model but they weighed far more than .4 oz apiece more than the Speedo brand.

Also, the Airwalk looks like the $10 water sandal being sold at Walgreen Drugs.

I forgot to mention, the Speedo brand has a very nice gripping feel to the bottom soles.

Sorry about the upside down photo. I don't understand why it's that way. The original, on my hard drive, is not upside down.

Yes, 6.8oz. But weights vary Roleigh. And they may vary considerably if the composition is altered; although the mold remains the same.

Size 11.

Model? Dunno. Sorry.

I wouldn't doubt if the Airwalk, Speedo and Walgreens water sandal all are made by the same overseas jobber.

Nice Grip in Water: Same w/the Airwalk.

My Crocs are made w/a softer, thicker plastic and are slightly more comfortable, IMO.

Peace,

Richard.

I carry/wear the Croc knock-offs, but without the holes. Absolutely brilliant as my feet stay pretty much dry even in wet grass, heavy rain etc…for short trips out of the tent when nature calls or just around camp. Quick drying, comfy, robust and light. However I am not a fan of camp shoes with holes in them. I often hike in my pseudo-crocs if the terrain isn't too atrocious, but I have yet to take ONLY my pseudo-crocs along on a trip. Maybe next summer…

They are all made by a company named China I think…

Car camping with my wife, we eat breakfast, and get ready for a good day hike…

Me: Where are my shoe laces?

Wife: Where ever you last put them.

I'd cleaned and removed my laces to help dry them from a week earlier backpacking trip. When we packed in a hurry for the car camping trip, I grabbed my shoes, but not the laces.

So – crocs saved my life. I hiked with them. The swiss cheese holes make sure you'll pick up a lot of loose rocks, but they worked. I personally would not wear them for long distance due to the holes.

Fantastic picture. Light gear in action!

Did you use a timer on the camera and then have to cross twice like Survivor Man for the pic?

LOL, no survivor man here. My hiking buddy — Steve — took the photo. He posts on backpacker.com forum and goes by "hoosierdaddy".

Yeah I was there with Ben on that day ;-)
Yeah, they are ugly. But waterproof, dry fast and feel really good at the end of the day.
I have Chaco's as well but if my feet swell I cannot get them on right (mine have the toe strap.)

I have had situations where my crocs have become wet, either from surface water or sweating, where the structure has deformed and allowed my foot to slip sideways (barefoot) within the shoe which caused me to loose balance. I also lost one in about 2 feet of clay at the bottom of a river during a kayak trip, the clay having sucked it right off my foot.

I did buy another pair but I don't plan on using them for anything technical. I also wouldn't recommend this style of shoe without socks if your feet sweat. In addition to discomfort and the risk of slipping, things can get pretty funky.

I weighed all 3 water sandals I have.

Speedo Water Buoy Men 8 6.3 oz apiece
(I gave link above)

Komodo Men 9 5 oz apiece
(from Big 5 Sporting Goods in Moreno Valley, CA)

Caribbean Cartel Men Medium 4.9 oz apiece
(from Walgreen Drugs, Minneapolis MN)

I will have to weigh the Crocs for the above size at REI, I swear the Crocs sold by REI weigh more than reported above. I wonder if newer Crocs weigh more than the one reported above. Oddly the lightest water sandals are those by Walgreens, and they only cost $10 a pair. They look identical to the clone brand pictured above.

That's probably why they are the lightest. Thinner, cheaper plastic.

I saw some 10$ Croc knockoffs at Ray's today. They didn't have any in my size or I would have bought a pair for grinsNgiggles. I know they were lighter than Crocs. And they were definitely a thinner, stiffer plastic composite.

Peace,

Richard.

You all don't carry a digital fish scale when shopping? Hahhah.

I do.

Of course you men don't exactly have purses to cram junk like that in.

>> you men don't exactly have purses

It is an evolutionary thing. We men are still trying to walk completely upright. Give us time. At least we have backpacks.

Another thing, purses are evil. Many years ago in a very crowded line trying to squeeze my way to a train, the people in front of me started pushing back because the turnstyle stopped working. As I was pushed back, I stepped back and my shoe heel crunched the toe of an elderly little lady. She screamed that I was a "so and so" and began hitting me in my back with her purse. Forturnately, I was able to blend into the packed crowd to escape her wrath. Unfortunately for some other poor soul, she started hitting his back thinking he was me.

Always interesting to see a thread — no matter how clearly titled initially — meander on and off topic — turning and twisting every which way. :)
