Okay, this is "MY" quilt. There are a few things I like and a few things I don't, so far. I took 10" off each of the sides tapering the quilt from 60" to 40" Then sewed those pieces together and added it to the bottom. The diagonal sewing and all the excess seams does not look that great. The ones I'm selling already have all theses issues fixed. They are much warmer than I thought they would be. Not bad at all for 16oz. . .

I plan to get some UL nylon fabric, and sew it tightly on to one side, and stuff some extra down into it loose. I know loose Down goes against conventional wisdom (and would be truly horrible by itself), but i'm still curious. At 20 dollars, plus a little extra for extra materials, it's a cheap experiment. I've thought of possibly using tulle for baffles though, since it's so cheap and light–just some extra work though and i currently work a full time & part time job. Anyone know where you can get some 750 Down for the most reasonable price?
Oct 5, 2015 at 10:20 am #2230390This is what i wanted to do, but lack the skills – make it longer and add draw cords on both ends, plus maybe snaps or loops/hooks along the long side. I wanted to use one of these as an under-quilt for my hammock or as UL blanket/bag replacement during summer months. I'm 6'3" so length is definitely an issue for me. Are you going to be selling these?
Oct 5, 2015 at 3:11 pm #2230449Nice work Aaron!
Oct 5, 2015 at 3:44 pm #2230452I was at the Richmond (SF Bay Area) Costco, on the way back from camping at Pt. Reyes. There was a whole pallet of these available. I picked up one and plan on making a quilt for my 3 yo sold. I'll have extra to play with, so my idea is to double over the top, use a drawstring at the bottom to shrink the size now but allow for future growth, and have a draft tube.
Oct 5, 2015 at 6:38 pm #2230467It's looking like a draw-cord version with no added length will fit someone up to 5' 5". I'll add 5" for a 5' 10" version and 10" for a 6' 3" version. Longer by request. All I'm waiting for is some cord-locks. I am also using 5 snaps along the foot box as it works better. Snaps are size 20 Kam-Snaps. Draw cords will be at the top and bottom and have a cord lock on each corner with a loop in each that is big enough to put a finger in. PayPal or cashiers check. Prices will include shipping. $40 for the short fully sewn foot box with no added draw cords or snaps $45 for a longer fully sewn version like the one above. $50 for a short version with draw cords and snaps. $55 for longer version's with draw cords and snaps. I have a short purple with snaps and draw cords done. I'll post some pictures tomorrow.

Would hazard to guess it's akin to minimum 30 denier thickness equivalent all nylon, possibly closer to 40 (denier and thickness are different things, but it's the only reference based i can compare it to). Then also 700 fp Down, which is mid quality. Actually, for the price, i'm surprised it's not 550 or 600 fp down, which is much more ubiquitous in the cheap down product world. It's definitely good for the price though.
Oct 8, 2015 at 9:58 am #2230934I picked up 2 yesterday. I plan to sew them into quilts, similar to Aaron. The plan is to keep one in my vehicle and also throw it in my daypack for emergency purposes. The other one is for my wildland firefighting bag (to supplement my sleeping bag). I'm thinking about just going with a sewn in footbox rather than a draw-cord, etc. Has anyone thought about adding a head hole to use it as a serape? With the sewn through construction, I have to think it would be easy to add without compromising the insulation, with a velcro flap of some kind to cover the opening. I've found the head hole on my JRB Sierra Sniveller to be extremely useful.
Oct 12, 2015 at 7:45 pm #2231695$12 each at Costco here in Phoenix.
Oct 12, 2015 at 10:16 pm #2231716I'll have to check the Costco in Ontario, they had a bunch the other day but at $20. Maybe the price has gone down. I bought 5 already, but will buy 2 or 3 more if they have gone down to $12. I've made one into a quilt, very pleased with it and I plan to make another. I highly recommend buying one of Aaron's if they are available. I'm also thinking about making a set of down sleeves for use with a wearable quilt, and possibly a down balaclava from the remnants of one of the throws.
Oct 13, 2015 at 9:17 am #2231760I was looking for them on Saturday at a Costco in Mesa and they no longer had them. I was thinking of trying to hit some other Costco's in the area to see if anyone still had them. Thanks!
Oct 13, 2015 at 4:00 pm #2231816I picked up the quilts from the Costco at 15th Avenue between Missouri and Bethany Home in Central Phoenix.
Oct 13, 2015 at 9:09 pm #2231851I saw a few quilts a few days ago at the Costco on Arizona Ave and Baseline in Gilbert. They were pretty hard to spot since they were on a top shelf in an area that mostly had snacks. I think they were $20.

Oct 19, 2015 at 12:30 am #2232760Finally found them at my store today in the Bay Area – got one for watching tv in the unheated downstairs room this winter. Nicer looking and warmer than the old synthetic comforter previously used there. Which is not to say it won't make it off the chair and out to the trail eventually…
Oct 19, 2015 at 6:53 am #2232767Got my first outdoor use of this quilt. I tucked one corner under the end of my sleeping pad, and used it diagonally over me as a simple quilt. with thermals and such kept me plenty warm at night down into the 50's, not exactly sure how cold it got. Can't beat the weight and size for the price. I would still be interested in this being a more fitted quilt, but for now it works as is.
Oct 19, 2015 at 10:49 am #2232793I'm using mine as a blanket on top of my bed, and for taking in the car when I go into the mountains in winter. I'm pretty happy with it so far, but it's been too warm to really gauge how well it will perform. Much lighter on my bed than the old blanket it replaced.

Oct 22, 2015 at 3:34 pm #2233445If anyone needs me to ship them some please email me at zeroforhire (at) yahoo (dot) com. My local Costco has lots left.
Oct 22, 2015 at 7:58 pm #2233493I bought one in September (along with the $20 down vest) for my youngest grand-baby. Works great in the car seat and stroller. Rolls up and fits in the diaper bag. The vest is for me lol I use it at work when the heat is not warm enough in the office.
Nov 11, 2015 at 8:03 pm #2237580A big THANKS for making us aware of this item. I always go through my local Costco looking for stuff like this but if I wouldn't have seen this thread I would have missed out. I was just in Costco and didn't see these so after reading this I went back and after about 30 minutes of looking everywhere I finally found them stuck on the sock isle – no rhyme or reason on how they place stuff. I picked up a couple and if they're still around when I go back tomorrow I'll probably grab a few more. I plan on using this to supplement my down Nemo Tango Solo that's rated to 30 degrees. I'm hoping that I can get another 10 degrees out of it with this quilt. Thanks again for the "heads up" – we sure have a great community on BPL!
Nov 12, 2015 at 8:02 am #2237663I don't have a Costco near me and don't have a membership, any possibility someone could pick a few up for me and mail them to me?
Nov 12, 2015 at 11:59 am #2237746Brett my costco had them when I was there last weekend. Want me to check for you??? How many do you want??
Nov 14, 2015 at 4:51 pm #2238208I can't find any in my local Costco. I'm looking for one or two throws to protect my quilt from the dogs. PM or emai pschontz (at) yahoo dot com if anyone is willing to ship one or two out to me.
