I am I the market for a new scale. Any scales out there that are extremely accurate and reliable? Digital better than analog?
Apr 11, 2015 at 10:38 am #2191109Cheap, accurate to almost 1g, goes up to 10lb …
Apr 11, 2015 at 10:55 am #2191113Thanks for the suggestion John
Apr 11, 2015 at 11:21 am #2191117i like my ozeri touch that goes to 18#. Only drawback I've found is it goes though batteries (cr2032) a bit quicker than I'd like.
Apr 11, 2015 at 11:42 am #2191120if you live in a province or state that has seen the ganja enlightenment
those shops which dispense the "medical" product have very accurate scales for sale
for good reason …
;)

or scales for weighing gold have to be accurate
Apr 11, 2015 at 12:53 pm #2191129I am a lab tech who does not believe in the legalization of drugs. I've done one to many drug screens on people. But thanks anyway. Let's just keep this about scales that can weigh backpacking gear.
Apr 11, 2015 at 1:24 pm #2191134maybe it IS backpacking gear…FAK
Sorry, carry on :)
Apr 11, 2015 at 1:41 pm #2191136just because a scale was "designed" to weigh drugs or gold doesn't mean it can't be used to weigh backpacking gear
maybe you don't want to buy it from a drug store, or a gold store – amazon.com has a lot of good scales
Apr 11, 2015 at 2:59 pm #2191159I'm sure that are many options out there that will do the job, but I have 2 scales and I am very happy with them both. When they fail I will buy the same again.
For individual items: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001RF3XJ2/
.01 gm resolution, 2 kg limit, Tare, <$20For the fully packed backpack, to…you know…double check my spreadsheet calculations :)
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0012T9QNA
<$14Both use regular old AAA batteries.
Apr 11, 2015 at 3:39 pm #2191167I have your first one. Works good for me. Must be intended for weighing gold because they have units of ozt (troy ounces for gold) and dwt (silver)
Apr 12, 2015 at 9:21 am #2191306I also have the same one; it's excellent.
For weighing a full pack, I have (and like) this one:
Apr 12, 2015 at 9:50 am #2191310mostly, I don't bother weighing pack
I use bathroom scale sometimes http://www.amazon.com/Eatsmart-Precision-Bathroom-Technology-440-Pounds/dp/B0032TNPOE/
Apr 12, 2015 at 11:27 am #2191329I use an AWS Postal scale. It handles up to 55lbs in 0.1oz increments, shifts to metric, has tare and hold reading functions and runs on AA batteries. The platform is an acceptable size and can be supplemented with a basket to weigh less cooperative items.
I would like one with a remote readout for bigger, clumsier items. It can be a challenger to get to the hold reading button on the side.
Apr 12, 2015 at 12:14 pm #2191338Or if you work in a clinic, use the baby scale like I do for weighing backpacks. Cheap and accurate..
Apr 12, 2015 at 11:20 pm #21914585000g x 1g, $8, free shipping, about 3 weeks from China:
Digital is nice because they all have a "tare" button. You can put a bowl on it, zero it, and then weigh awkwardly-shaped items. I have a range of these scales around the house that I've bought off of eBay and never had a problem with them, as long as I could wait 2-3 weeks for them to arrive.
Apr 13, 2015 at 6:11 am #2191488I've had this one for five years now, easy on batteries and accurate- only goes up to 6.6 lbs, but that should cover most UL items :)
Apr 13, 2015 at 6:33 am #2191494http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00QFCN7DE/
$7.99 with free Prime shipping
110 pounds, tare, lb/oz/kg, hook
Good enough for shaking down Scout backpacks or posing with fish. Not right for gram counters.
Apr 13, 2015 at 11:39 am #2191574AnonymousInactiveI own this one, no complaints, thousands of other reviewers feel the same :) $12.50
Apr 13, 2015 at 1:09 pm #2191604so…yeah…*many* options :)
