As has been discussed here before, Honeyville offers 50 lb bags of malto, but it's the powdered malto that's not as easy to mix as granulated. I'm trying to find out whether Honeyville might be able to offer, as a special order, or as a regular item, an agglomerated maltodextrin product. Since it looks like they source it from Tate and Lyle, I'm looking at the Tate and Lyle products (not the Maltrin QD 500 that has been referred to previously as a good aggolomerate, but hard to source at less than ~ 200 lbs).
Does it look right that Star-Dri 1105A, a 10 D.E. agglomerated maltodextrin would be the equivalent?
Would this be of interest to others if Honeyville could offer it in 50 lb bags for price similar to their powdered malto (~ $70 for 50 lbs delivered)?
Thanks!
Cheers,
Bill S.

Jun 4, 2015 at 7:16 am #2204596I'd call around the local and Internet home brew stores and see if any carry the agglomerated before ordering a huge sack. All homebrew shops will have maltodextrin and sell it by weight. Williams, more beer, rebel, northern etc should all have the connections to order you a full sack if they don't stock what you want
Jun 4, 2015 at 11:03 am #2204658I've called 3 or 4 local brewing supply places in the San Francisco bay area, none of them have even heard of agglomerated maltodextrin. They do seem to carry the standard powdered maltodextrin but it sounds like that's not what we want. One of them told me they have M100 from GPC, the others did not know what it was called but said it was very powdery.
Jun 8, 2015 at 6:20 pm #2205620You definitely want agglomerated. That stuff mixes so much better than the powdered maltodextrin that you won't believe it. I mix about 500 calories in 20oz at a time and it still looks and tastes just like regular water. Never going back.

Jun 8, 2015 at 8:07 pm #2205642Jun 14, 2015 at 8:37 pm #2207263I got a response from Honeyville in SoCal. They will sell a 50 lb bag of agglomerated M500 Maltodextrin for about $50 with local pickup. Not sure what the shipping charge would be but probably a lot. I'm in Northern California but may be able to get a friend to pick it up for me and bring it up. If anyone wants to go in on a bag with me let me know.
