Got a link to yet another MLife survey from RJ and BPL.
Dear BPL Lifetime Member,
We have started the process of scoping out the next version of the backpackinglight.com website.
Please help us with our direction during this initial phase by completing this short survey:

Best Regards,
Ryan Jordan
Founder & PublisherHere are the questions being asked.
What are your favorite websites overall, and why?
What is your favorite website in terms of aesthetic appeal / ease of use? What do you think are the primary strengths of this website?
What is your favorite website in terms of its community / forum / article commenting features? What do you think are the primary strengths of this website?
What features of the current backpackinglight.com website do you consider as STRENGTHS that we should retain into the future?
What features are currently MISSING from backpackinglight.com that you would like to see in the future?
Discuss.
I have not yet submitted my answers. I'm sure some of you out there have some spectacular questions and suggestions.

A Staff.
The End.
Feb 13, 2015 at 4:40 pm #2174115Ken,
I saw it too and spend sometime filling out the survey, which was a very abbreviated list of suggestions that I had a few years ago.
I always have hope for BPL becoming better and I do applaud them for reaching out to the community for input.
I was disappointed by the lack of response to the thoughtful suggestions that people had a while back….can't remember if it was a year ago or longer.
Anyway, hope that this goes well for BPL.
I suggested better search….a completely redone home page that appeals to newbies/novices.
Core articles that are rotating frequently about the Big Three….to answer the question: What is UL/Lightweight Backpacking and how do I get started? (Which is the likely reason why someone comes here for the 1st time).
I would like to see links at the bottom of the articles that will link me to prior ones related like SOTM issues…..or the Weekly Newsletters….at the bottom have quick links to the prior ones.
Wealth of information here that is not easily accessible/found.
Had others, but just a quick sample of what I suggested.
Tony
Feb 13, 2015 at 7:31 pm #2174154We never heard anything about the results of the last survey. Wonder if we will this time. Why only MLifers being asked?
Tony, good to see you post. Always positive. We missed you at the G.G.G.
Feb 13, 2015 at 7:47 pm #2174157Lifetime member here. Have not received any request from Dr. Jordan or anyone else.
Feb 13, 2015 at 7:50 pm #2174158Yeah, I thought I must have just deleted it, but i don't remember getting an email for a survey either.
Feb 13, 2015 at 7:50 pm #2174159That seems to be not uncommon M G, Doug. That' is why I post these things here. There is a link above in the now attached email that I received.
Feb 13, 2015 at 8:49 pm #2174174Ken, the purpose of a survey is not always to gather opinions.
Sometimes it is to make the members feel as though their opinions count, especially when other evidence shows that it doesn't.

Feb 14, 2015 at 7:29 am #2174244I know Bob.
This is not the first survey/
Feb 14, 2015 at 7:35 am #2174247"Sometimes it is to make the members feel as though their opinions count, especially when other evidence shows that it doesn't."
If you decide to do something, and then ask people's opinion and everyone's against it, and then you try to convince people, it's really annoying.
Better to just do it.
If the web site is useful, people will keep using it.
BPL is not unique…
Feb 14, 2015 at 8:26 am #2174258I have not bothered to read any mail from Bpl in a long while
as it only adds to my disappointmentFeb 14, 2015 at 8:40 am #2174260"I have not bothered to read any mail from Bpl in a long while as it only adds to my disappointment"
I'm the same way with email from Match.com…

Feb 15, 2015 at 10:48 am #2174497Ken's link works for me.
It goes to Ryan's 2011 thread "Exploring the Future of BPL". It's 9 pages long.

Feb 15, 2015 at 6:38 pm #2174582Thanks Bpb. That thread has a lot of great ideas in it though. I believe it is the thread that Tony mentioned above.
I don't think the questions are very good. I find them a little vague.
I don't participate on any other forum, or read any other backpacking site.
Feb 17, 2015 at 9:34 am #2175005I was wrong. I did get the email, but it went to my junk mail folder so I didn't realize I had it.
Feb 17, 2015 at 9:51 am #2175008"I did get the email, but it went to my junk mail folder…"
Certainly appropriate.
(Drops mic; walks off stage)
Feb 19, 2015 at 6:44 am #2175655Just a bump for those who might have missed it. I do not know how long the survey linked in my OP will be up.
Don't waste an opportunity to tell it how you see it.
Oct 8, 2015 at 11:49 am #2230964Hey there BPL. So any update on this?
