Unlimited Members Field Trip: Backpacking in the Colorado Rockies (Fall 2025)

Signup information will be emailed to all Unlimited Members at 7 PM MDT on Monday, October 6. No charge (free), space is limited.
Join fellow Backpacking Light Unlimited Members for a backpacking field trip in the Colorado Rockies during the fringe-season transition into early winter.
This event emphasizes off-trail navigation, cold-weather backpacking systems, and risk management in a mountain environment where short daylight hours and uncertain snow and weather conditions define the travel experience.
This field trip is open to Backpacking Light Unlimited Members. Participation requires completion of the 2025 Fringe Season Masterclass (attend live or watch the recording). Space is limited, there is no charge to attend, and signups are on a first-come, first-served basis (we will maintain a wait list for cancellations).
Participants are fully responsible for their own shelter, cooking & water treatment systems, food storage (bear canisters or Ursacks with aluminum liners required), gear, food, supplies, self-care, and safety – this is a community trip, not a course or guided experience. We will trek and camp together as a group, collaborate on decisions, and practice skills in a challenging environment.
Other Details:
- We will meet at a trailhead near Estes Park, CO at 8:00 AM US MDT on October 31, 2025, and return to the same trailhead by 6:00 PM US MDT on November 2, 2025. Exact location TBD, and will depend in part on the evolving status of the US Government shutdown this month.
- This trip is being organized by Ryan Jordan. Total group size is limited to 7 persons, including the trip organizer.
- Participants should have the physical fitness, equipment, and skills required to be self-sufficient in the high-altitude mountain environment characteristic of the Colorado Rocky Mountains. Details about experience and the route environment will be provided in the information provided to Unlimited Members when signups go live at 7 PM US MDT on Monday, October 6, 2025.
