In the past four years since our Double-Wall Tents Review Summary and Gear Guide Overview, a lot of manufacturers have made the move to add lightweight offerings in their double-wall tent line-ups. Many now use designs that both cut weight and make set-up much faster. In some cases the weights are getting low enough to challenge the benefit of choosing a single-wall shelter when the advantages are brought into the equation. This new State of the Market Report (SOTM) will serve to bring a portion of the last Review up to date with the latest trends and design features, plus give some background for beginning backpackers.
In this SOTM report, we focus on double-wall tents made for two people that have a Trail Weight of 4 pounds (1.81 kg) or less. Trail Weight refers to the tent body and rain fly, plus the minimum stakes needed to set the tent up. It does not include stuff sacks, extra stakes, gear lofts, or footprints.
