In this online course, you’ll learn about the unique perspective of backpacking gear, skills, and philosophy from viewpoint of women. Our goal is to help you build competence and confidence to help women thrive in the backcountry and do so with safety and comfort.

Meet Your Instructor
Anna Swarts (she/her) is an experiential educator, outdoor adventurer, and Superior Hiking Trail Association volunteer. She has a Master’s Degree in Education (Natural Science and Environmental Education) from Hamline University. Anna was introduced to backpacking at a young age through a nonprofit in her hometown. These experiences provided the skills and confidence for many adventures she’s had since. Some favorites have included thru hiking the Superior Hiking Trail, section hiking on the Pacific Northwest Trail, guiding in Alaska, and travel and volunteerism in New Zealand, Europe, and Nepal. She is passionate about removing barriers and helping others experience the benefits of outdoor adventure. She currently lives in Duluth, Minnesota.
