The Slingfin NFT offers several key features that make this tarp unique on the market:
- One of the most tear-resistant and UV-resistant ultralight fabrics available (see this blog post to learn more).
- Catenary cut edges stabilize the long sides. This is important because the NFT is not a tiny tarp, and the catenary edges help keep the pitch taut.
- No catenary cut on the ridge line (this is a good thing!) this allows the NFT to behave more like a flat tarp and less like a shaped tarp, which gives it maximum flexibility for multiple pitch configurations.
- Lots of guyline tieout points on the ridgeline, side panels, and edges. This gives you flexibility for many different pitch configurations, and stability for severe weather.
Flat tarps made with Dyneema Composite Fabrics are lighter, but they have a limited lifespan. The various ways we pitch DCF flat tarps cause a lot of fabric panel creep in them, especially when we crank down the tension. This compromises their ability to stay taut over the long haul.
“…the Slingfin NFT’s fabric – 10D*450T NY66 SIL/SIL – is among the most performant lightweight tent fabrics I’ve ever used. After enjoying the incredible tension I can put on this fabric, I’m not sure I could ever go back to any other type of silnylon, silpoly, or DCF for a flat tarp.” – Ryan Jordan
