The Durston Gear Kakwa Backpack is a small-volume pack capable of carrying heavier loads. In the race to shave ounces off of backpacks, manufacturers have eliminated comfortable hip belts, internal frames and framesheets, and durability. The Durston Kakwa offers a light but strong internal frame that can support heavier loads. A double-strap hip belt with reverse pull and a yoke-style shoulder harness round out the key suspension features. Several storage options exist for organizing gear outside the main packbag:
- A tall side pocket;
- Zippered access to a separate compartment in the tall pocket that can be accessed while wearing the pack;
- A shorter side pocket with an angled opening that can be accessed while wearing the pack;
- Elastic shoulder strap pockets for bear spray, phones, snacks, or small bottles;
- Zippered hip belt pockets for snacks and other small items;
- Rear mesh pocket for stowing bulky items like clothing or a shelter fly;
- Top V-strap for securing a bear canister, tent, or other large item;
- Attachment points on the rear of the pack for rigging a bungee cord system.
