Mountaineering ice axes are often overbuilt for routine hiking over snow-covered trails because they are also designed to be a technical anchor and useful when traversing glacial ice. Save weight with an aluminum axe – our recommendation is the CAMP Corsa, a hiker favorite in our community but still rated in accordance with EN 13089 Type 1 for use as a snow anchor and self-arrest.
