SOLD

UPDATE: I don’t know why this hasn’t sold yet. I really need to clear out my closets so I’m cutting the price way down, now $200 and I will pay for shipping in the U.S. lower 48. This is a new tent, has never been used, has been sitting on a shelf for the last 10 months.

So, I ordered this in July and received it in Sept. I wanted to use this solely as a winter tent (I prefer a freestanding inner in the summer) and I only got around to setting it up in my backyard a few weeks ago. It’s just too small for my preference in the winter. I’m not really an ultralight backpacker – my trips are 90% canoeing or xc skiing with a sled. I’m used to roomy tents, and this is supposed to be a lighter alternative to my 4p, 8+lb, 110 square foot winter tipi tent. I attached all the guylines and set this up in my backyard and immediately decided it would be too cramped for me with all my winter gear. I ordered a Durston x-mid 2p and that was perfect for me, so I’m selling this. I’ve never taken it anywhere or slept in it – the extent of its use since being made by MLD is me setting it up in my backyard once on a nice dry day and taking it down 45 minutes later. I asked Ron Bell if he’d take it back and his 3-word reply was something like “sorry too long.”

With that all out of the way, it’s the gray/green silpoly version of this tent. I put ZipCare lube on the zipper, but I’m not including that bottle of lube with this sale. It is not seam sealed, and I am including the unopened tube of seam sealer. MLD also sends a trekking pole extender/jack, a little patch of repair material, and a stuff sack, and that’s included here. The DuoMid has 17 total tie-outs (including both sides of the door). I tied 2-foot yellow lines with loops on all of the perimeter linelocks, and 6-foot green lines on all the guyouts. So you’re not getting the uncut length of guyline, but you’re getting more line than what came with the tent, which was not enough to make all the guyout lines, and you don’t have to melt 34 different line ends!

Let me know if you want different photos than you see in the listing. I don’t really know what to show except some crumpled up silnylon and the tent in its stuff sack, and I’m not going to set it up again.

I’m selling it for full price. You can get exactly the same thing from Mountain Laurel Designs but you’ll wait several weeks. I’ll pay for shipping in the U.S. If you happen to live in Upstate NY, I’m in Skaneateles and I go to the Adirondacks quite a bit, so send me a message if you want to arrange an in-person transaction.

One last thing: if you’re not fully convinced you want a classic pyramid and you’re worried (like I was) that the DuoMid might not be big enough, take a close look at Dan Durston’s xmid 2p before you buy this. It has a slightly larger footprint, won’t shed wind as well, and the fabric isn’t quite as robust, but it’s so much roomier than the DuoMid.
