The Big Sky Wisp tent is a budget ultralight trekking-pole-supported 1-person tent. It is NOT freestanding and requires one 120mm hiking pole (not included) and 6 stakes to pitch (and a 7th optional stake for side panel guyout).
Included with the tent are the matching footprint, 2 installed guylines, and 7 stakes. Hiking pole not included.
Measured weight: 25.05 oz = 1 lb 9 oz (including footprint, 7 stakes, guylines, and stuff sack).
Mostly single wall, with one side door and vestibule.
This tent has been used only about a dozen times. It is in good condition.
There are cosmetic signs of normal usage, such as the footprint obviously showing dirt stains, and other small dirt marks along the base of the tent. But overall the tent is in excellent working condition.
Damage: there is one point of damage which I’ve fixed: The small vertical strut pole at the foot of the tent poked through the fabric at the top. I fixed this in the field by taping some gorilla tape into a small ball on the end of the strut, which makes the end point of the strut too big and blunt to poke through the fabric. I’ve attached pictures below showing this. It works fine now and you probably wouldn’t even notice this if I hadn’t told you. Also, the stuff sack is completely busted, so you’ll want to use a different stuff sack.
This is a compact, ultralight one person tent weighing just over 1.5 lb including stakes. It can be a bit fussy to set up, as it’s not freestanding and requires 6 stakes to pitch tightly, though this gets easier with practice. Plenty spacious for one person, with extra space for clothes and misc gear on one side, and your pack and shoes in the vestibule.
Overall, the Wisp isn’t perfect but it’s a great budget ultralight option for a solo hiker who uses trekking poles. Most other options that are lighter or better are probably made with DCF and significantly more expensive. Or they are not enclosed/bug-proof like this one.
