While taking some measurement for someone wanting to know the real useable interior of Zpacks Altaplex, I noticed  something didn’t seem right. Something is amiss-either the claimed 8″ bathtub depth on both tents is not present on my 2020 era Altaplex and 2023 era Plex Solo, or the floor widths are off.

1A-2020ish Altaplex claims a floor width of 36″. I measured the floor at center, 47″ of total dcf. If the bathtub was truly 8″ that would make the width 31″, or alternately, with the floor width is 36″ then the bathtub sides at this location are only 5.5″ tall here.

1B. The total floor material length is 98″. Assuming the 90″ claimed floor length, that either  puts the bathtub height at 4″ or the length at 82″.

2A.2023ish Plex Solo. Measurements on their site claim a center floor width of 38″. I measure a total floor width(pulled flat tightly) of 51.5″. Assuming the bathtub is 8″, this leaves 35.5″ width. Assuming 38″ width is correct, we have 6.75″ bathtub depth-less egregious for sure, but still shy of the claimed 8″ depth and a 18.5% discrepancy.

2B. The total floor material length is 101″. Assuming the 90″ claimed floor length, that either  puts the bathtub height at 5.5″ or the length at 85″.

TLDR: Are we getting the full 8″ bathtub depth along with advertised floor length/width from Zpacks?

    What are your thoughts?

if the edges are rounded rather than square it could come closer to 8″

@Jerry Yes if the edges were rounded you could lose something in the curve, but these measurements were taken flat while pulled tight. So regardless of sharp or rounded bathtub transition from floor to wall, there isn’t enough material to achieve claimed length/width+8″ per side for bathtub.

If the edge of the floor was rounded with a radius of 5.8″, then the length of that curve would be 5.8″ * pi / 2 = 9.1″ – that is what length of fabric you’d need.  If you had a square edge you’d need 5.8″ * 2 = 11.6″. You just saved 2.5″ which would allow you to have 90″ length and 8″ bathtub with 101″ fabric length.

    I could make a picture – that’s a bit convoluted.

I’m just talking math here.  I agree with your skepticism of the zpacks numbers.  I’m just coming up with a way to make their numbers work.

@Jerry that might help. Math, as you can see, is not my strong suit.
