I got this pack last spring, and it has been AROUND. It’s my everything pack nowadays. Dayhikes, multi-day trips, grocery getting, seasonal hobo. I was SO careful when i first got it, but its invincible. However, i didn’t like how it carried weight. I would have to adjust the shoulder straps a lot and it never felt even. The more weight i put it in, the closer the shoulder straps would draw together. And i don’t like feeling lumpy stuff on my back. Alright, so i decided to fix this, on the cheap, and i think i nailed it on my first try.
I laid the pack down on an $11 brand new coleman .4″ sleeping pad, guessed at the bottom curve, cut it out, scored for the bend. Done. HUGELY improved the handling of the pack and i’m angry that i didnt do it before. 1oz added.
I know i post a bunch of silly junk on this forum, but in my mind, this is the spirit of backpackinglight…..ingenuity trumps dollars. There are lots of ultralight frameless packs like this, and they are what they are, but this UL “frame” is definitely worth doing. It feels so much better. An ounce is more than my saw, knife, and lighter combined…..and its definitely worth it for me.
