I’ve never posted a full trip report before, but this was my biggest most successful trip to date so here it goes! https://docs.google.com/document/d/

Congrats on a great trip Charlie!  Thanks for the write up.  I hope to do something like this one day for sure.

    I’m not seeing the pictures.

yes, outstanding country and trip! I’ve done the ‘low route’ version, I suppose, at least six times, always in early season. The so called Benson Lake loop out of Twin Lakes. Anyway, many of the highlights of your trip can be reached on trail, as I’ve done. this is really spectacular country, especially around Matterhorn and Burro pass. and Mule pass, which you missed by going off trail! so there are trade offs on the routes. I’m lazy and usually hike solo, so find trails, even when snow covered, to be reassuring.

wait, apologies, I found the photos. And I stand corrected, the high route that you guys followed is far more spectacular than my little on trail loop. there’s a lot of major glacial activity happened through here, to state the obvious.

The low route, as i call it, does include more biology. But it also includes plenty of higher elevation scenery as well. But your route excels in this last.

I think this area of the Sierra may be discounted somewhat because the elevations aren’t quite as grand as in the south. Your photos should discount any prejudice. This is spectacular country.
