Considering going out to Wind River Range on 7/8-7/11 with plan as follows:
Day 1 – Drive in Dickenson Creek Campground; hike North Fork Trail towards Cirque of Towers 12 miles
Day 2 – Lizard Head Trail to Bears Trail to Valentine Lake 11 miles
Day 3 – Day hike loop via Washakie Pass/Hailey Pass/Bear Ear Trails 16 miles (optional 2.5 mile side trip to Baptiste Lake)
Day 4 – Bear Ear Trail back to Dickenson Creek Campground 12 miles
Questions
Snow – based on date, itinerary, and current snowpack, is there any challenges posed on this hike? I don’t mind hiking on some snow as long as nothing technical and not getting slowed down for long stretches. I wear trail runners and don’t have an ice axe. I’ll have trekking poles and can bring microspikes if needed.
Car – Can a car easily get to Dickenson Creek Campground? I see it’s accessed via a long dirt road and sometime those are terrible for sedans. It’s a lot more expensive to rent a SUV.
Thanks in advance for any replies!
