Contemplating going out of either Twin Lakes or Virginia Lakes in early August.

Twin Lakes, Barney Lake, Robinson Lakes, Crown Lake, Peeler Lake and Snow Lake.

    or

Virginia Lakes, Summit Lake, Green Lake, East Lake, Gilman Lake, and Hoover Lakes.

Which might be best for fishing and hiking?

    Thanks for your input.

Bear in mind that my experience is from five to ten years ago. Fishing can change a lot in that time.
I would choose the Virginia Lakes itinerary, both because I think it’s easier hiking (how old is your grandson?) and because it’s easier to move in to the next lake if the fish aren’t biting.

But Summit Lake is windy–you’ll want to camp high up in the trees there.
I think Twin Lakes and Barney get more fishing pressure.

    Thanks,

My grandson is 20 and a backpacking beast.   Thanks for the question, because many might think we need easy for young grandson.   We might need easy for me, but not him.   And I have done Mt. Whitney about 23 times and don’t go as fast but able to keep going for reasonably long distances and high altitude.
