I like the looks of the GG cork ergo trekking pole grips….as a replacement for the stock grips on my LG CP3’s. However, I can’t bring myself to spend that much money. I then realized that I have some 3/32″ thick minicell foam that I could use to build up the LG grips. I could cut it into strips, wrap, glue it on, then shape to my liking with sandpaper or rasp.
Before I go to that trouble though, I’m wondering what other options there may be.
Any ideas?
I don’t care for the shape of the stock Locus Gear grips, and they’re too small for my liking.
Feb 22, 2016 at 9:05 pm #3383914I’m also interested in what other people have come up with besides spending a ridiculous amount for the Gossamer Gear grips. I have read that others have used Eva foam that is used for fishing poles. I’m just not sure where they have purchased these handles and if they are willing to sell just a pair. It would be nice to find an economically feasible option for replacing current trekking pole handles.

Feb 22, 2016 at 11:41 pm #3383935I agree that the $22.50 from gossamer gear over the top for a pair of grips that probably cost $2-4. I also can’t vouch for the grooves cut out in the palm area.
Try a search on ebay for “cork grip fishing” or “natural cork grip”
also on ebay: cork sheet 2mm thick, if you like cork more than minicell foam.
Nothing satisfies as much as making stuff that works better than what I bought or could have bought
Feb 23, 2016 at 7:11 am #3383958I’m not sure how easy it would have been to find but I had this in my “MYOG bookmarks” so I had it really convenient. Should be REALLY interesting for you:

“Nothing satisfies as much as making stuff that works better than what I bought or could have bought” My feelings too. It’s not just about saving money or being tight…which both applies to me. I simply like making stuff.
“I’m also interested in what other people have come up with besides spending a ridiculous amount for the Gossamer Gear grips.” As much as I like making stuff, I don’t mind splurging and buying rather than making. But…like many others, I think GG wants way too much for those grips. And then there’s GG infamously pricey shipping on top of that. Unless, for some reason, their markup isn’t as much as retail items generally are….then I’d bet if they’d drop their price a bit, they’d end up selling more, perhaps making more $ at the end of the day. Just a guess though…
“I’m not sure how easy it would have been to find but I had this in my “MYOG bookmarks” so I had it really convenient. Should be REALLY interesting for you” Thank you, Jordo. I had seen that in the past but the thread has expanded since. It certainly adds to the options.
I’d really be interested in hearing from anyone who has contacted Champion Shine in that thread. They have all kinds of good looking grips. http://www.chps.com.tw/product_view.asp?PidNo=200703290002
