Back when Ron had these marked down half price clearance (2014), I bought an extra. I’ve used the first one a good bit and it carries well, but the white gets disgustingly dirty quite easily. I hate going for resupply of just seeing other hikers with a nasty, dirty looking pack. I might be overly self conscious, however a scummy look is not becoming nor is the Fusion 50 stealthy.
There were a couple of threads years ago where some people dyed them, but I’m afraid the dye might bleed off in rain. Also doesn’t help the silicone coating when heated to near boiling temps. Any other ideas on how to change the white to a dark color…ink maybe? Paint?
Is that the Robic nylon fabric? From what I understand, Rit dye works well on nylon fabric but with considerable variation in shade depending on a few factors. Pic of a color swatch of the same dye on different materials attached for reference. But I don’t know how you’d go about doing just the white fabric. Maybe painting the dye on? Or, you know, go rub a ton of dirt on it, lol.
I would think Rit dye would work. Of course I’d say dirt adds character. If you see someone with a brand new white HMG pack in the backcountry you think they just walked out of an REI – If you see someone with a really dirty HMG pack you wonder what stories they have.
