Can I expect to find water at Cottonwood Spring, on the west side of Horseshoe Mesa, in April? (Not Cottonwood Campground on the North Kaibab.)

If you’ve got firsthand experience I like to hear about it.

    Thanks.

Cottonwood is seasonal so water in April is highly dependent on winter precipitation AND spring time temperatures.  Your best bet unless precip is say 50% above normal is to assume it will be dry as you make your plans.  East of and ~1 mile below Horseshoe you will find water in the Miners Bathtub

From the BCO at GC NP –

    “Greg,
The spring there should still be good about that time and pretty much as it gets hotter in May, it will dry up.  You can always check with us again as it gets closer to your hike in April if you will be hiking.
    Best,
    Mindy”

Be assured, we’ll check before we drop in.

The hike down to Page Spring to the east of Horseshoe Mesa is vigorous, but reliable, if Cottonwood is dry.

I just did the Loop March 12. There was water everywhere. Cottonwood Spring was probably flowing for a mile or more.

We did the loop counterclockwise. I’d recommend doing it clockwise so that you can camp at the cottonwood springs area and be in the valley in the morning. I think that would give you the best chance of seeing wild horses which would have made the trip a bit more enjoyable.

Interesting side note, I had phone service all the way up to the parking lot.

PM me if you have questions.
