Just ordered one the other day. I do like my Duece of Spades #2 trowel but I saw the Vargo Dig Dig tool and decided to give it a go. Its more narrow then the duece so I am thinking for packability it will roll up cleaner in the bag and not as bulky. It does weigh a bit more, so I will see if the difference matters much. Anyone use this already? Thoughts?
My kit consists of trowel, bidet, a few compressed wipes and some hand sanitizer.
Jul 20, 2021 at 11:48 am #3722512Please report on how it goes. The price is a bit crazy, but it doubles as a good anchor for loose or wet ground, so in some ways makes more sense than the Deuce . And as you say, easier to carry…
Jul 20, 2021 at 12:17 pm #3722516I’m curious to see if you could saw small sticks with the serrated edge. That might make it a bit multi-functional when using a little wood stove –if we ever get to do that again in the West.
Jul 20, 2021 at 12:41 pm #3722521I’ve never used the Deuce, but the Vargo is definitely better than the snow stake I’ve always used in the past. Mostly, it’s a lot sturdier, but the serrated edges are modestly helpful with roots. (I haven’t tried sawing sticks with it and probably won’t.) I didn’t like the way it digs into my palm, so I Plasti Dip’d mine (top inch and a half or so).
Jul 20, 2021 at 12:43 pm #3722522Definitely will report back. Though it may work to saw twigs for my wood stove, honestly… I have never ever needed or wished I had a knife or a saw to get twigs for my stoves. They do tend to break and snap rather easily!! I will let you know though.
Jul 22, 2021 at 5:02 pm #3722810Got it today. While I do like the way it holds in my hand and it is very sturdy, well designed and the serrated teeth are nice ( not sharp to damage your pack or baggie) it is a bit longer then the Deuce #2. There for it will not fit in my quart size zip lock bag with the other items. The Deuce fits in there perfectly and so am able to roll it all up. My other option I could have a small silnylon or dcf sack custom size to fit it also… Hmmmm. Shall see. I have no doubt about its digging capabilities, it is nicely made like I said, and very sturdy.
Jul 22, 2021 at 5:15 pm #3722812Disregard all that. It fits just fine on a slight angle in the bag. It was my ocd making it more difficult!! I will definitely bring it next few trips and see how i like it.
