Curious about Sierra snow pack this spring? Frankly, if temps are normal or above from here on out, I’d count on a ‘normal’ season…or better! in terms of access. But it’s an  El Nino year (El No-no,  for Sierra hikers…).  Living here in Berkeley, my intuition is…get ready! See  all the exposed granite, even in deep snow?  One can access ‘lower’ elevations (5,000 to 7,000 feet) earlier than expected if  you plan carefully. And consolidated snow is easy to walk on, going higher. Again, snow melts off granite and allows exposed trail access on climbs, even if consolidated snow remains in the trees. Easy-peasy!

<p style=”text-align: left;”>This most recent storm now puts us over the average, and means that for the first time in fifteen years, we’ve had two good snow years in a row…</p>
