What are the trade off when moving from a more traditional stainless steel wood stove to a newer lightweight ti wood stove (ie ti goat cylinder?

I have a helsport classic wood stove (12kg!) that we use with our big pyramid /lavvu tent when close to the car for basecamp hanging out as a family and would love to swap it out for a lighter stove for taking it in the pulk etc but haven’t been able to try one out in person. Living over in Norway and most people have experience with the more traditional stoves and are leery of the newer light designs.

Will I have any problem due to the fact that my lavvu is 12ft high? I assume higher is better just like with normal stoves but wanted to hear your thoughts before I shell out for one on my next trip back stateside.

    Cheers,

    Brendan

We use a TiGoat titanium wood stove in our silnylong teepee and it works just fine.

The only advantages of SS , I would think, are the cost and more even heat distribution.

The latter can be useful for cooking where , possibly, the top plate will have a better heat spread.

But for heating the shelter, Ti will be better.

BTW, I was told by a couple of manufacturers that the cylindrical stoves are more efficient but of course the box type have a better shape for cooking.

I too have the Helsport Lavvu stove and I really want something a bit smaller and a lot lighter. I simply cannot justify another tent heater stove but the Helsport really doesn’t fit well on a Paris sled based pulk. I have the Varanger Camp model lavvu in the video above, it’s a good tent but I wish I had bought the big one

Thanks for all your replies. I have the varanger 12-14 model – the one without the “camp” entrance.

was just told that seek outside does 12 and 16 man teepees and that there xl ti stoves work pretty well in them. We’ll see how rich I’m feeling next trip home :)

Size and weight sit right between the seek outside 12 amd 16 man tipis (when you add the double doors to them) but the helsport is taller
