I recently got a Brother 1034D serger and like it a lot. it’s fussy to thread but once you get it set up it’s really great. definitely not a required item since you can finish hems w/ a sewing machine, but really nice to have because it makes the edges very tight and clean. also if you have serger and sewer both set up you can move between the two machines very easily which is nice. i like it for slightly stiffer fabrics like cotton or supplex. haven’t tried it yet on the lighter weight nylons (like 1.0oz or 1.6oz). haven’t tried it on a composite like DCF but those don’t really fray anyhow. i’ve made some supplex hiking pants and the serger definitely makes it look very “pro”. if you have the table space i say go for it!
