Here is a report on another attack. This time a black bear. The man sat down on the trail before the bear was on top of him. Wonder if that might be a different approach to a lesser degree of mauling. Something akin to “roll over and play dead”
I find a shotgun a little heavy when I’m running :)
dogs can sometimes be bad to have along in encounters with bears; we had a couple of pheasant hunters mauled by grizzly that was giving chase to their bird dogs- the hunters only saw their dogs running out of the brush they had been been working, next thing they saw was a charging grizzly!
