Peanut butter, honey, and bacon mini-bagels.
Thank you Mike Moore, you’re a beast.
Jun 15, 2019 at 2:50 am #3597924I am not sure that photo should not be censored …
Cheers
PS: do you put the bacon on top of the PB&H?Jun 15, 2019 at 4:52 am #3597946I do pb, bacon, and honey on top. After a day in the pack I’m not sure it matters….
Jun 15, 2019 at 5:21 am #3597952Yeah, well …
The moral minority retires defeated!Cheers
Jun 15, 2019 at 1:08 pm #3597973Yeah, I could probably live off of those for a few days.
Move probably mentioned this before but I have a friend that is a wildlife biologist that works in the field. Her favorite backpacking food is avacado, Brie and baguette. She brings all three and eats them in various combinations. She says she doesn’t need anything else for several days out.

That, my friend, is the very definition of HYOH!
It sounds awesome, but I need a little more variety. Â And she must pack whole avocados no? Â Otherwise they get nasty fast.
Jun 15, 2019 at 2:26 pm #3597981Shouldn’t the thread title be the name of said sandwiches? Believe they’re called butthole sandwiches or something similar iirc from BMWO threads
Jun 15, 2019 at 5:52 pm #3598005JCH, she brings whole avocados.
Jun 16, 2019 at 1:47 pm #3598077Hey, I bumped into a hiker that was ONLY carrying cheese. He was on a 5 day hike.
Jun 16, 2019 at 1:53 pm #3598078I guess if you only bring cheese, you don’t need a trowel for a five day hike.
Jun 16, 2019 at 6:56 pm #3598096Are we talking about good cheese in France/Italy/Spain or a Costco chub-pack of string cheese?
Jun 16, 2019 at 6:59 pm #3598097Jun 16, 2019 at 10:31 pm #3598108If you could keep eating it, a bear canister full of cream cheese would give you a lot of days hiking.
Jun 16, 2019 at 11:07 pm #3598114Alternate layers of cream cheese and strawberry jam? With a few sultanas?
Cheers
Jun 16, 2019 at 11:14 pm #3598118Why not just a 1 liter bladder of olive oil? With a few sultanas, of course. ;0)

I think there should be a layer of ladyfingers too.
Jun 17, 2019 at 12:20 am #3598133Tom, I can eat a hell of a lot more cream cheese than olive oil. Particularly if I brought some of Craig’s bagels…
Jun 17, 2019 at 12:39 am #3598135Yes, butthole sandwich is the given name, as introduced to me by Mike. But my wife says I’m not allowed to call them that if making them in her kitchen. ; )
Jun 17, 2019 at 2:35 am #3598144Criminy…just…
….! Â so wrong in so many ways…
Jun 17, 2019 at 5:01 am #3598155“Tom, I can eat a hell of a lot more cream cheese than olive oil.”
I spake in jest, although one guy actually tried an FKT attempt of the JMT with a 2 liter bladder of olive oil. It did not end well.
Jun 17, 2019 at 6:36 am #3598162a 2 liter bladder of olive oil
That would have had an interesting effect on his bladder (and his bowels).
A complete idiot imho.Chers
Jun 17, 2019 at 10:00 am #3598165I agree. Humans evolved to eat a number of differing foods. High calories in fats only digest slowly. Proteins are somewhat faster to digest. Starches are fairly moderate, and a few sugars/modified sugars require no digestion, simple absorption is enough (ethyl alcohol, for example.) Vitamins/minerals are simply absorbed from the foods in most cases.
Unfortunately, evolution has introduced necessities into your diet for a variety. Fast energy, mid term energy and long term energy just go together with your diet. Cheeses are good since most is digested. Being without oatmeal or other roughage will bind up your colon. And absorption/digestion of cheese can be lower if you have low lactase (as a simple example) leading to excess gas, and diarrhea. (You will adjust after a few days.)
Anyway, unless you are willing to put all your foods into a blender, I don’t believe there is only one natural superfood for a human. Humans process most anything. Humans also need a variety of dietary items.

How many of his calories came from fat? Olive them!
