There a what can be best described as a Japanese $1 store popping up on the west coast named Daiso. They are huge in Japan and have fairly good quality stuff. I saw some really light weight 1 liter pot and a lid for $3 total. These would be good if your looking for something cheap as a alternative to the grease pot. I didn’t weigh them but it feels lighter than the grease pot. I thought this would be helpful for someone that was looking for something cheap. For $5 you can pick up a fry pan, pot and lid.
1 liter aluminium pot $1.50
Matching lid $1.50
Fry pan $1.50
Stainless steel cup appox 500ml $1.50
$1.50 grease sheild aluminium foil really large sheet for windscreens. I use this quite a bit. pretty tough stuff
$1.50 stainless steel chopsticks. I like these since we eat a lot of ramen. useful for other things since they don’t burn.
$1.50 folding spoon and fork. Neat but heavy
if you do a search there have been quite a few discussions over the years about DAISO .
Not a bad price. It looks rather heavy, though. My 1qt grease pot and lid go about 3.6oz. What does a set weigh? (I also have an aluminum cup at around 1-5/8oz.)
Thin-walled Al pots: yeah, fine. I use my Ti pots because a) I have them, and b) they don’t dent in my pack. But the Al pots would work just as well – and being thin-walled they would distribute the heat just as poorly. Good idea.
Metal cups: never use them. Burnt lips follow with hot drinks. YMMV.
Al Foil: wonderful source for windshields!
SS chop sticks: might make good long cheap stakes for critical points?
Cheers
