I’m not going anywhere special this summer (start graduate school in the fall, need to save money), but I thought I’d post my gear anyway. Sharing is fun!
I’ve been trying to minimize what I carry, not necessarily lighten it. In fact, if I had the financial resources, I’d probably even gain a bit; I’d like a non-tarp poncho (cut tends to be better) and a GG Pilgrim. Also, this gear is probably overkill for most of Oklahoma summers. Sleeping bag is laughably unnecessary, and the weather out weather is predictable enough that I could probably avoid any likelihood of rain. But I thought I’d be safe, so. :)

Please excuse the typos!
Jun 11, 2016 at 5:55 am #3408239That’s a pretty light compression stuff sack at 2.8g. ;^)
Just kidding. I looked it up and it’s 2.8oz. One helpful thing with a gear list is to use either ounces or grams, but not both. Mixing up units causes those boo-boos.
Overall looks pretty good. I personally would not use a stuff sack for the sleeping bag, just stuff it in the bottom of the pack. And for summer, I use an EE Rev 50 quilt that weighs 11.3oz (320g) , which is almost 10 oz (283g) right there (including your stuff sack at 78g, plus sleeping bag difference of 205g). But my air mat is 10.3 oz and pillow is 2.1oz and coffee mug is 3.6oz, so I “give back” all that weight savings with luxury items, although for me a good night’s sleep and a big mug of very strong, hot coffee in the morning are necessities!
I don’t see any cook gear/fuel… no cook?
Have you hiked in those sandals before? They’re not practical for me where I hike, but maybe they’ll work fine where you hike.
Still plenty light enough IMO, however. Hope you have some fun hikes this summer!
Jun 11, 2016 at 9:27 am #3408244Haha. Whoops! I fixed it (stuff sack weight).
I admit I’m a little afraid to leave the stuff sack home. I used to use a trash bag, but I’m lazy, and they can get a little annoying. I find it way easier just to yank the already-compressed bag out and toss it into/under the shelter. If I wanted to really minimize the weight, I might be able to go without anything because of the poncho, but I’m not sure if I like cutting it that close.
I’ve actually wanted to go to a quilt for a while, but I’m not sure how comfortably I’d sleep. When outdoors, I sleep on my stomach (which is also why I don’t use a pillow), and part of me wonders how well I can keep a quilt over myself when on my stomach. I could use pad attachments, but I really like the X-lite for stomach sleeping. It’s surprisingly comfortable. It’s a little bit of a pain to roll back up, but it’s comfortable.
I’m no cook/soak. Like I said, I’m lazy, and it’s just another thing. :) I usually eat a fair amount of GORP. Love the stuff. Bet I could eat it exclusively. The sandals I’m trying out. I walk probably 5-10 miles a day on concrete for leisure, and the sandals have been my exclusive footwear the last couple months. They’ve held up fine. I’m not sure if I’d wear them somewhere especially rocky like the Sierras, but on dirt trails, I’m pretty sure I’d be okay. It’ll be fun to try, either way. I’ve wanted to transition to sandals for a while.
I’m considering trying out Gossamer Gear’s revised Minimalist pack. It might be a bit small, but it’s super cheap, and it’s incredibly not fussy. Wish they made one that was slightly bigger, but for the price, it’s hard to complain.
Thanks for the reply! :)
Jun 13, 2016 at 5:58 pm #3408660Also consider MLD Core. I have the 1700 (28 liter). Wasabi, of course. :^)
I’ve used it for a few SUL-ish trips and it is totally adequate with a couple of shoulder strap water bottle pockets and a hip belt pocket.
For the water bottle holders, I suppose you could also use these, which I recently noticed as new items on the Zpacks website.
