I tried out my Zpacks Challenger jacket in wet cold weather last week. Â Temperatures were in the high thirties, low forties, and the ultralight design of this jacket does not include a “zipper garage”. Â The way it sat on me, the back of the zipper pull was right against my chin/lip, and was a focused small spot of uncomfortable cold.
To remedy this, I took a very small dab of Sugru and smeared it on the back of the zipper and let it cure. Tried out the jacket today up at Mt. St. Helens, temps were even lower with falling snow, and the zipper was unnoticeable. Â Score!
The other use I’ve found for it recently is to adhere a loop of 2 mm cord to the toe caps of my Altra Lone Peak NeoShells for my gaiters. Â Kind of clunky, I’ll need to practice my technique, but it is working nicely, and 1 pack of black with 1 pack of white matches the rubber on the toe cap perfectly. Other shoes I’ve used a needle and thread, but due to the waterproofness of the material I didn’t want to take a needle and thread to the NeoShells.
Other uses for Sugru?
