    Hello,

I want to spend Dec 26 -Jan 1st traveling out my first winter UL hike (unless someone wants to persuade me to fly out to warm weather area). I live in Illinois but I’ll be in Philadelphia on the 26th so really a drive or flight anywhere works.  I figured I’d pick a location before submitting a gear list for review. I’m not opposed to snoe shoeing either.

It looks like if I leave on the 26th and need the 1st to get back I’ll have a good 4 solid days of hiking +/- another 1/2 day if needed but I don’t wanna push it my first sub 32 extended hike.

FYI, the lowest temp I can sleep with my system is 10. I have an SMD trekker that generbally can shed at most 6″ of overnight snow safely.

So any suggestions for loops or easily hitch hiked one way routes y’all suggest?

    Hanz

    Locale: Mid Atlantic

You might want to look at parks and forests along the AT. (Caledonia State Park and Michaux State Forest come to mind.)

There are usually lots of connecting trails along the AT, so you could easily create a  circuit hike, and shorten/legthen it if conditions change.

PA’s state parks and Mid Atlantic Hikes websites might be useful:
