I have four days off and am looking at going up Canyon Creek and spending the first night just above the upper lake. Day 2 will be peak bagging Wedding Cake and Thompson, and stalking Golden trout in the upper creek, and spend the night at the same camp. Day 3 is up to Ell Lake, Sawtooth Peak, and spend the night at Smith/Morris Lakes. Day 4 will be bushwhacking down to the Canyon Creek trail and out. Initially, I wanted to tackle the Trinity Alps high route, but I am not up for tackling that on my own, and I think it is still a little much for my 11-year-old. Maybe in a couple of years? Primary objectives for the trip are peak bagging, stocking golden trout, and getting into the higher reaches of the Trinity Alps.

I have been up Canyon Creek many times, but rarely venture into the higher areas off trail. Any suggested changes to my route? I’m going mid week, and school is already in session, so I don’t think it will be very busy.

    HI Aaron,

I was going to do the same trip (T.A. high route) more or less this next week. I changed my mind once I

    talked

w/ two different parties living in my area who are going into the Canyon Cr. lakes basin. No, you will probably not see anyone once on the ridges, but down below it will be a zoo from my past experience. I will do the High Route sometime in Oct. hopefully, as there should be no one there at that time (hopefully).

I don’t mean to rain on your parade, it’s just my past experience.

    Paul
