Howdy!
Normally I carry my cell phone in my Zpacks shoulder pouch, so it’s easy to reach when I want to take some pictures. However, I recently got a super-sized iPhone, and it won’t fit in the shoulder pocket. Does anybody make an add-on pocket that is big enough to hold my new phone?
Thanks for any advice.

May 20, 2022 at 12:29 pm #3749983I can highly recommend modifying an Encased belt clip for shoulder strap use. I have been doing this for years and my phone has never fallen out even after hundreds of miles of brush bashing. All the folks I hike/hunt/ski with have either made their own or I did the conversion for them.
Buy the case/belt clip combo. Break the belt clip piece off the carrier. Cut 4 slots in the case with a dremel tool. Sew a short length of 1″ grossgrain (for reduced bulk) through a Slik Clip and then sew a tail of Velco omnitape to that (and make 2 of these). Thread these through the slots and then attach the Velcro tails to each other to snug the Slik Clips against the back of the case carrier. Voila. Easy one-handed operation.

May 20, 2022 at 5:48 pm #3749997I use note 9 which is similar size as iphone 12 pro max, and I even use it with a waterproof case making it even larger. It fit perfectly in Our HANCHOR CELL phone bag. The additional advantage is that it provide great protection from rain and collision . Furthermore, fidlock closure is super easy to open and access the phone.
May 20, 2022 at 8:56 pm #3750026Would you be opposed to using a fanny pack? I started to carry my phone in my HMG Versa fanny pack attached to my sternum strap, as I found my arms would always bump into larger shoulder strap pockets.
May 20, 2022 at 10:09 pm #3750038Both a Gossamer Gear large (a little tight if phone covered)Â and HMG works ok.
Both are zip (potential weak link) so been thinking of a mini roll-top from an Etsy manufacturer.
Of course the theory is to have it close at hand … especially for sudden pictures.
May 21, 2022 at 6:09 am #3750046Treadlitegear in the UK makes a couple of options that should suit, one without a zip, and one with a zip. Shipping is cheap, but I don’t know how long it will take to arrive.
