Looking for a good first trip in the San Gabriels or around Southern California. Most of my hiking has been in the Los Padres NF, but most of my normal places are either closed due to fires, or completely dry. Been seeing some videos from a guy down there (Pharaoh’s Youtube channel) that makes it look like parts of the San Gabriels have water still.

Looking for a hike I can do with my gf over a weekend. This will be a more mellow trip, so maybe under 15-20 miles total. Water would be great to have on trail, but not a deal breaker. Figured I would see if anyone has some good suggestions.

    Thanks!

2 weekends ago I took my kids to Cooper Canyon trail camp along the PCT. we started at the Burkhart TH that lies within the Buckhorn campground. It’s only 3 miles one way but you can continue along the trail and do an out and back. Look up info and trail reports for the Silver Moccasin trail. Great local hiking.

Water is the key item in SG mountains. Short walk from ACH to Little Jimmy trail camp, water always at the spring a couple hundred yards away. From there you can do a long dayhike of Baden-Powell, Throop, Burnham, Hawkins and back to LJ. That would get you up around 15-20 total.
