Hi Guys,
I have been looking for info on this for weeks..
Can anyone tell me what the snowfall has been like in the Pyrenees in France/Spain over the 2018/2019 winter?
I am trying to prepare an itinerary and plan variants in case of snowy passes but anytime I try to find what I need on google I only end up with ski reports for current snow conditions!!
I am heading on June 25th-July 29th.
Many thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to school me!
Apr 4, 2019 at 6:25 pm #3586998You might look for trip reports on the web sites of the French and Spanish long distance walking associations.
Have you checked the French and Spanish weather bureaus for snowfall levels? In Spain there is http://www.aemet.es and http://www.canalmetreo.com in Spanish which Google can translate for you.

https://www.j2ski.com/snow_forecast/Spain/Tavascan_snow_report.html
Apr 5, 2019 at 10:14 pm #3587223June 25th is fairly early. Very likely to be some snow around still.
We got to Tarascon on the French side of the Pyrenees in late-May one year, looked up at the range, and saw white everywhere. An ‘um’ moment, so we hastily revised the trip. Basically, we were just far too early. Going early does not work.
Cheers

thanks for the links. I don’t see any summary of overall snowfall on them but I will keep looking!
Thanks again

page not found x2 🤔
Apr 6, 2019 at 11:31 am #3587295Hi Roger,
yes, June 20th is the general rule of thumb if starting in Hendaye. Hourquette d’Arre @2465M is the first obstacle. Or ally snow free by 10th July… I’ll be there earlier than that. If I could find a review of snowfall from this winter past I could make some decisions at home that would be harder to make on site.

thankyou for your words. I will check treklite. If he is there now he could just as easily be skiing!
