Dear Scouts and Scouters:
The trail crews of course should be using map and compass to navigate at Philmont (not that the navigation is all the challenging but sometimes folks take a wrong turn).
If a crew decides to take some GPS enabled devices, it might be fun once they return home to participate in the OpenStreetMap project to memorialize their trek. Some details here https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Philmont_Scout_Ranch.
Just today was I invited to mapping event at a California state park co-hosted by Sierra Club I have no experience with the project but perhaps folks who do might share their experiences.
