It looks like I will be going to Minden, Nevada in early July to witness a Factory Acceptance Test for work and if I get the OK from the wife, I might could sneak in an overnighter while I am out there. Does anyone have any suggestions for a quick overnighter in the area that would be easy to get in and out of and wouldn’t require getting permits more than a week or so in advance?

You could an in and out hike by going north (or south) on the PCT from the trailheads at Carson Pass. Given the late spring snow, the wildflowers should be awesome in Meiss Meadow.  I always have liked the Carson Iceberg Wilderness since once you get of the PCT, you often do not see anyone for days at a time.  For example, you can hike into the Wolf Creek drainage from the Highlands Lakes TH off SR4 or from the several trailheads along SR4 east of the Ebbetts Pass. From example, from Highlands Lake you could do a loop hike toward Noble Lake, then Bull Lake, down to Wolf Creek, then back to Highlands Lake.

Hoover Wilderness is self register for permits at Leavitt Meadows for Leavitt Lake, etc.  Great area to explore.  And most of the other Hoover trailheads have nice overnights; Virginia Lakes, Green Lakes, etc…
