Anyone see that? http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/nature/wild-ways.html
They did genetic testing on Grizzly Bear fur and so forth. Determined that Yellowstone is not big enough to have enough Grizzlies to provide enough genetic diversity to be long term sustainable.
There needs to be a bear corridor to wilderness areas in Northern Idaho, Canada. Bears go back and forth to provide enough genetic diversity.
Between Yellowstone and Idaho there’s a valley with ranches and highways. They are working with landowners to provide a pathway. Little things like leaving gates open to allow wildlife to pass help. Wildlife are good at finding a path through if there is one.
There are highways in Canada that have wildlife overpasses. In Banff. They are quite effective but a bit expensive. We need those in the U.S.
Grizzlies are in indicator species. If there’s enough area for them, then other animals and plants will also benefit.
