Does anyone have a tasty water flavoring agent that is non-electrolyte, non-caloric, non-caffeinated? Preferably free of food colorings. I have electrolyte tablets but during a very dry 3 day desert backpacking trip I found it very hard to consume plain water for some reason. A little flavor would be a big help.
Edited to include non-caffeinated.

Feb 18, 2025 at 11:54 am #3828721I use the unsweetened flavors from True, which I believe are just lemon, lime and grapefruit:

Those look great! Thanks.
Feb 18, 2025 at 12:08 pm #3828727The lime works well in freezer bag meals too
Feb 18, 2025 at 2:51 pm #3828739Or a little trail tequila?
Feb 18, 2025 at 3:25 pm #3828740True lemon/lime is great!
Seconding the suggestion of tea. I have cold-brewed green and mint tea in a water bottle many times.
Feb 19, 2025 at 10:17 am #3828778Might be tough to get the tea bag out of the smart water bottle opening but I like that idea.
Feb 19, 2025 at 10:55 am #3828779Tea’s great, warms my soul but carrying a dozen wet bags out does add up.
Any recommendations for an authenticish tea powder that’s not too hard to find? I drink matcha but looking for alternatives
Feb 19, 2025 at 11:27 am #3828782MIO has some non-caffeinated flavorings which are 0 calorie, but most of them have some sort of colorant. 2/3 ?
Feb 19, 2025 at 12:16 pm #3828785The food colorings don’t do well with me. It’s too bad it looks very convenient to dose out the desired flavor intensity.
Feb 19, 2025 at 11:21 pm #3828826Crystal light has been around forever. Plus you can use the big plastic container for a sunglasses case. I don’t know if it has color in it though. Instant iced tea comes in unsweetened. Instant tea is closer in taste to real iced tea than instant coffee is to brewed coffee. Doesn’t have as much caffeine either, not sure if you need totally caffeine free. In addition to true lime and true lemon, there are also orange and grapefruit flavors. Or just suck it up and make yourself drink water. Some folks find that if they drink other flavored things all the time they find it harder to adjust to drinking plain water. You can get used to it though, training your palate.

Feb 20, 2025 at 2:37 pm #3828901A ziploc bag of lime or lemon wedges and drop however many you like in the bottle?
Feb 20, 2025 at 2:48 pm #3828903Doh. Electrolytes… never mind…
Feb 20, 2025 at 2:54 pm #3828905That would work too. Limes are pretty durable.
Feb 20, 2025 at 4:15 pm #3828915Lemon balm.
Feb 20, 2025 at 6:09 pm #3828934Yep, Crystal Light. Some of the regular stuff is almost uncolored and they make a line with no coloring.
