I have a trip next week (Sept 21-24) to the White Mountain Wilderness near Ruidoso, NM. In a conversation with a backcountry ranger at the Smokey Bear District Office, I learned that the wilderness has received copious amounts of monsoonal moisture.

Has anybody been to Spring Cabin in the last week. I’m curious about the water sources near Spring Cabin. Specifically: Spring Cabin Spring, Spring Canyon Spring, Little Bonito Spring, Argentina Spring, Turkey Spring, and Little Bonito Creek.

Thanks for any first hand information you have,

For those heading to Spring Cabin:

Over September 21-24, 2022: Spring Cabin Spring was dry. Spring Canyon and Little Bonito Springs both have no or very difficult access. Argentina Spring had water. Turkey Spring was dry. Little Bonito Creek was flowing well throughout the entire canyon. The creek in Turkey Canyon was flowing from the half-way point down canyon, Argentina Canyon had water from the head of the canyon all the way down.

Thank you for the update.  That’s way more water than I found there on my last trip, which must have been 7 or 8 years ago.  Sure is a beautiful area, and I hope to get back there one day.
