After a lot of help from everyone here i finished my Hexpeak Tent. Thanks guys!!!!!!!!!

It’s my first attemt on a pyramid shelter with a zip. I did a trailstar copy last year and a quilt, that was all my sewing experience … But i’m pretty pleased with this result.

It’s a 6 sided tent. Made from triangles with a base of 175cm and a height of 220cm wich give an pitched height of 170-175 cm.

It’s not an ultralight tent but my wife is joining me backpacking for the first time to france (when corona is finally gone..) And she wanted a bigger shelter wich could close up ;) Next up is an inner.

I used 40D silnylen 55gr/m from extex. 20mm Webbing is used for the tie outs.
I have added some mittenhooks for an inner or bivvy.
A YKK 5C zipper was added with 2 sliders so i can open up the top for ventilation. The zip runs all the way to the top and is finished with some ribbon and the top reinforcement.

I stil need to add 5 linelocs and a buckle for the zipper. I used normal PE cord as guylines, i may switch to dyneema to save some weight.
The weight as it is now is 764 grams or 26.95 oz

    The proces and result:

Looks like an ELNA TSP machine?

    Cheers

Looks fantastic, Joost! Nice work! Thanks for sharing the process and results with us.

I noticed that the webbing with the Linelocs is sewn in doubled over/ folded perfectly in half, while the side guyout webbing is sewn with the webbing ends slightly offset from each other (in a V formation). Is this to make it easier to insert a guyline into the side guyout webbing (and therefore not needed on the Linelocs webbing  because those are sewn in permanently) or does the offset (V shape) have to do with distributing forces over a larger area? Hope my description makes sense.

@Greg The linelocs could be sewn in the hem/felled seam. On the hem That 5 layers of fabric of the felled seam plus 4 layers of the hem (i left the salvage of the fabric on an folded it in to the hem) so a total of 9 layers of 40D fabric. The side pull outs are “just” 5. So i made them as an inverted V to ditribute the load better. I think i will add a piece of shock cord and then a dyneema line. The shock cord takes up some force if the wind i hope… But they are just belt and brace options for bad weather. I may just carry 3 pieces of dyneema cord and put them where there needed.

I hope this makes sense? Explaining in another language isn’t always easy…

Ah – more modern than ours. Maybe? Not sure. May even be the same.

On thinking, it may be that the TSP was my mother’s. You could swap disks on it, but we never did. This model has a few disks embedded, which is more than enough.

Well, whatever machine, tent nicely done.

    Cheers

Nicely done, seams look even, panels taut with few wrinkles!

    Thanks!

I forgot to mention some detail.

To finish the zipper i folded the zipper over itself and sewed over the tape. I forgot to take a picture before I sewn a buckle over it ;)

On 2 other locations on the zipper on the inside I sewed small loops. On one end I tied a small cord with mini cord lock wich I can insert in to the second loop and fasten it to relief the zipper.

The mid panel tie outs I bonded with Wacker Elastosil, and sewn over the edge of the patch. Elastosil makes a very strong elastic bond on silnylon. I’ve read somewhere that Vaude is testing the first no-sew tent made with Elastosil.

I’m now working on the inner. Made of ripstop nylon with a peak of mesh.
