Jan 11, 2017 at 4:29 pm #3444596I’ll take “Sierra for the win” but autumn in the NE can be nice, but you’ve gotta grab it quickly sometimes! ;^)

Jan 11, 2017 at 6:29 pm #3444624I would love to add some photos to this, but it appears that I have to manually resize photos before I can post.
Jan 12, 2017 at 1:37 pm #3444766Another reason they need to update the website. Id post a handful of photos also.

Jan 12, 2017 at 2:14 pm #3444782Rather than uploading directly to BPL, embed a link to a hosted picture (i.e. Google Photos, Flickr). Then you don’t have to worry about reformatting the photo size, file size, etc.

Where in Sabrina Basin is that photo taken from?
Jan 17, 2017 at 11:13 pm #3445759Great pics, Justin, Andy, and Brad. Thanks for posting them.
Jan 19, 2017 at 1:01 am #3446006Thanks for starting the Mid-thread Alex:)
@matthew, that was just above Sailor Lake with Picture Peak in the background. The lake was already starting to melt even in mid March. Our camp was in the trees in the pxt below:Jan 19, 2017 at 5:38 am #3446013Gotcha. Cool!
I’ve not been in the Sierra in the snow. It looks exciting and fun. Is the road plowed up to Sabrina?
Jan 21, 2017 at 7:18 pm #3446447Andy, I love your pictures of the high sierra in winter. My goal is to not let winter restrict my high alpine travel. How long did it take you to become comfortable going to such remote places in winter? Do you have any formal avalanche education? I am super paranoid about avalanches. Right now I’m sticking to mild terrain and easily accessible places while I get more experience.
Mar 17, 2017 at 11:34 pm #3457580I need to hit the “notify me of follow ups” tab, I apologize for my slow response!
@Matthew, the road is plowed to tthe gate just above Aspendell (about 1.8 miles from the trail head). There is a pullout area for parking there. There was a short time during the heavy weather this season when they weren’t able to keep it open, but that was a rare occurrence.
@Justin, thanks! After a few trips in the local mountains to get comfortable with gear etc I was comfortable doing a ‘real’ multi-day Sierra trip. I still do short trips in the winter in the local mountains, but for anything in the Sierra I go in the spring once the snow has consolidated and the avalanche danger is minimal to non-existent. Cal-Topo has a shaded relief feature that shows the actual angle of the slopes, and I stay away from anything even close to 35-40 degrees. I haven’t taken an avalanche class and definitely would if I ever did a Sierra trip in the winter. All that being said I’ve done a few multi-day UL snowshoe backpack trips in remote Sierra areas and it’s amazing out there in the snow! If you’re interested this is a link to a few trip reports from spring trips:http://seatosummitultralight.blogspot.com/p/trip-reports.html
Have fun!

Feb 4, 2019 at 1:30 am #3576665I don’t have a duomid yet. I love my MLD Cuban Grace tarps. I prefer hanging any time, any where.. I really love my Chameleon hammock and HG Cuban tarps. But I really love this post! You all posted some awesome photos of your Duomids in action. I will definitely be buying myself one, one day soon. It’s nice to see when they are true and tested like this and that they are well loved by many.
