I usually wear baseball style hats. After an hour or so the sweat drips off the bill, often onto my glasses. I have an old hat from Colombia that wicks the sweat to the extended bill and it drips away from my glasses, but I cannot find a replacement and it is old.
Any suggestions on how to best manage head sweat?
Thanks,
Lowell
Slow down? Take your hat off and let your head breathe. This works for me.. I am an inferno and I sweat easily.
Prescription glasses?
I do a bandana rolled up Bruce Springsteen style and sunglasses… so I don’t ‘need ‘ a hat, but if it’s prescription glasses I got nothing. Hats make me sweat worse IMO
Dunk your hat in water every chance you get. This will help keep your head cooler.
If going with the dunk method, I like to boost it with a small microfiber towels soaked from the last water source…
Buff. Or headband that fits under the hat.
When I do wear a hat I like to use a Buff Dryflx headband around my head then put my hat on. I don’t wear baseball style hats hiking though but if you do it’s best to wear an adjustable fit cap so you can put it on over the headband then adjust the fit. I prefer and wear an Outdoor Research bugout brim hat when backpacking for sun and bug protection and it’s very comfortable.
I sweat a lot while hiking and have a 9″ square microfiber towel that I clip to my shoulder strap using a badge retractor from work. It allows me to easily wipe the sweat off and just let go of it and it snaps back to my shoulder strap. It’s easy to wring out the sweat from the microfiber but I have to remember to tuck it into the mesh panel on my backpack when I take it off or it picks up everything on the forest floor.
I gave up wearing hats while hiking years ago because it was just too hot for me – even when it’s in the 20’s.
Thanks all for the suggestions.
