Does anyone have a specific brand/size magnet that works well for replacing toggles on dcf tent doors?
May 1, 2024 at 1:31 pm #3810454I used these when adding additional tie outs to a Durston XMid2 Pro. Ā Just sandwiched them between layers of dcf repair tape. Worked perfectly.
May 1, 2024 at 1:58 pm #3810457@JCH thank you. I assume they hold relatively well if using for tie outs?
May 1, 2024 at 4:02 pm #3810464Won’t that make your pack weigh incrementally more while on metal walkways?
OTOH, sticking your pack to a metal fence post during a break would be cool.
May 1, 2024 at 4:16 pm #3810465@Brad W – they hold every bit as well as the factory door tie outs. Ā Iām very happy with the results.
May 2, 2024 at 8:34 am #3810493If you’re willing to spend the money, Zpacks magnetic toggles are easy to apply and hold very well.
May 2, 2024 at 10:24 am #3810499@JCH thank you.
@William Chilton I saw those. I am not super keen on the material used for the strap. I figured with a box full of magnets, some extra dcf and dcf tape I could make something similar that’s less unsightly.May 2, 2024 at 11:26 am #3810503JCH, what is the weight per, say, 5 or 10 magnets?Ā (Would not trust Amazon data even if I could locate it in their marketing chaos.)
I also have good results attaching with thin, ultralight, DCF repair tape; but my magnets are a bit weak.
May 2, 2024 at 10:24 pm #3810584I find that magnets in my -pack affect my compass somewhat erratically. They may also affect credit cards and mobile phones to some degree.
Cheers
May 4, 2024 at 7:37 am #3810690https://www.kjmagnetics.com/products.asp?cat=168 has a variety of sizes of n52.
Order a few different sizes to check to strength and have fun!
May 4, 2024 at 3:09 pm #3810725May 13, 2024 at 9:53 am #3811320I have a box of slightly smaller round neodymium magnets that I use for tons of stuff. I never thought I would use them as much as I do. I recommend getting some just to have on hand.
May 13, 2024 at 2:32 pm #3811328@David Thomas ā You’re carrying it wrong. Turn your tent over to lighten your load.
May 14, 2024 at 7:44 am #3811370On my X-Mid the floppy screen tie is a pain. I found Magnetic Cable Tie Cords found in many hardware/electronic stores did the trick. About a 3 in silicone cord with encapsulated magnet at each end. Also useful for testing out permanent stick-on magnets. Come in several colors.
