Opinions on these two? I have the opportunity to get one or the other and I’m not sure what the functional differences are. I know they’re both popular standards for skinny metal-edged skis. They would be for daytouring and possible overnights on trails that are too steep for edgeless skis, and for long exercise days on more open ground. It probably comes down to preference, so if you’ve owned them both, which do you prefer and why?

I’ve only owned the Glittertind, but I remember looking at the Fischer. The Madshus have a fairly stiff camber, which I like, because I want touring skis for relatively flat areas and the stiffer camber emphasizes glide–while making turning more difficult. But you probably know this. I have fish scales,by the way and only day skied.

The Glittertind are the only edged cross country skis I’ve used, so take that into account.  I primarily Nordic skied on groomed trails.

this isn’t very helpful–I like the Glittertinds though.

Thanks, Jeffery. I prefer waxless, too.

If you live near Boulder,CO or want to mail order call Neptune Mountaineering. They sell the Norwegian Asnes Combat Combo skis (yeah, white) that are the Norwegian Army issue, and now issued to the US Marine Corps Expeditionary Force.

Mine are 210 cm but I recommend 200 cm for average size men. Easier to manipulate in trees.

They have a grommet at the tip and a notched tail to accommodate climbing skins. I use G3 skins. Very rugged skis, full metal edge. I put Voile’ release plate bindings on for safety in the backcountry. Generally I use my plastic Scarpa T3 Tele boots B/C they have removable liners that I can keep warm in the foot of my bag all night.
