Has anyone successfully put GG LT4 handles onto Locus Gear CP3 poles? I know the top pole sections diameters are different. LT4 poles are 13mm, and CP3 poles are 16mm. I tried looking up information on boring out the handles to fit without much luck for specifics. Any ideas?
Edit: I posted this here because I’m assuming mods like drilling out the hole in the handle would apply.
Nov 29, 2015 at 7:58 am #3367563oh yeah – there actually are a ton of threads about this. Â Easy to do – just have to use some kind of dowel to widen the GG grips a bit before sliding them onto the CP3 poles.

“…some kind of dowel…”
A dowel with a slot in the end to hold a 4inch by 1inch strip of 80 grit sandpaper. Chuck it in a drill motor and sand the bore of the grip until things get close enough for a tight fit. Glue will help it slide on.

EBay supplier I have used a few times. Excellent quality and very reasonable shipping times.
Jan 12, 2016 at 1:33 pm #3375396I’ve done this mod and have about 400 miles on the poles without issue. I sliced off, ripped off, … The LG grips. I also used a heat gun to soften up the LG grips to make it easier to pull them off. Next, I sprayed some cheap hairspray down the inside of the GG grips and then pushed/twisted them on the poles. Voilà ! No need to bore the grips out.
Jan 18, 2019 at 11:26 pm #3573772I just completed this switch. I love my LG poles, but after about 2000 miles the grips started turning my hands black. To remove the old grips, I carefully cut them lengthwise, without pushing so hard as to score the carbon pole. I used pliers to twist off the top plug. If you don’t want straps, leave the plug off. I got a piece of 1/2″ pvc pipe and beveled one end. It has an outside diameter very close to the diameter of the pole. Heat one of the new grips on a hot pad in the oven for 5 minutes at 250 deg. Pull it out of the oven and slide the pvc pipe in with a little twisting. Leave the pipe in until the grip cools. Carefully slide the pvc pipe out. I put hair spray on the pole and it slipped easily into the grip. When dry, the hair spray helps hold the grip on, similar to the Windex suggestion above. Repeat for the other pole.
I wanted straps, so the job was a little more involved. Once the plug is removed from the pole, take out the screw and thread it into the top of the plug. Then glue the plug back onto the top of the pole. The plug has a considerably larger diameter than the pole, which is a problem. Once the glue was set, I ground the plug down to the same diameter as the pole. Then oven, pvc pipe, hair spray and slide the grips on. Carefully cut a little window for the straps in the appropriate place. I wanted to replace the original straps as well, so I got GG straps. Back the screw out, slip the grommet for the straps in and tighten the screw. Voila! You’re set for many more happy miles! A few pictures follow.
