Anyone have any good recommendations for a low/no sugar electrolyte mix? I have tried the DIY method but the taste when using Epsom salt for magnesium is unbearable.

Two products that are sugar free – popular among ultra runners and endurance cyclists – both in capsule form:

    Saltstick

    Endurolytes

Having tried the above (and many others) and much experimentation the formula that works for me is:

dissolve in a half liter of water

    • a teaspoon of Natural Calm magnesium citrate powder
    • quarter teaspoon of salt (sodium chloride)
    • pinch of lite salt (mix of potassium chloride and sodium chloride, available at grocery stores)

I drink the above during activities lasting 4+ hours starting around 2-3 hours.

I suffered from severe muscle cramps during longer duration activities; the above has completely solved my issue. If I’m going to be out there for 8+ hours I might drink twice the above.

Note: Excess potassium can be extremely dangerous potentially leading to fatal cardiac arrythmia.

    YMMV, NFI…….

Pedestrian-thank you!  I will take a look. I have similar cramping issues at the 4-6hr mark that are at times crippling.

I also take half a teaspoon of the Natural Calm powder dissolved in water an hour or so before bedtime a few times a week.

Important caveat: magnesium salts have a laxative effect. Be careful to gradually build up the dose or you might trade muscle cramps for gut cramps……not fun!
