Hi. My name is Paul and I’m looking for folks who want to go on weekend trips in the New England area without the booze. I’ve been sober now 17 months and still really dig getting out in the mountains. You don’t have to be sober or anything, I’m just trying to meet people who can leave the booze at home for a weekend trip. It seems like all the backcountry shelters here in New England are turning into party central and as a hammock camper, i just need a solid water source to stay 200 feet away from with all activities. I look forward to hearing from folks. Take care and stay well. Paul
Apr 21, 2020 at 6:31 pm #3642457You might want to add what kind of hiker you are: miles per day and such, so people have a better idea on whether you’d be a good fit.

I quit drinking the day I retired. Why ? Seems backwards, huh? Because I like it too much. And with all this time on my hands I didn’t want to turn into ( that ) guy. Will I ever ? Maybe. But I can wait for awhile.
Happy trails,
Apr 22, 2020 at 7:12 pm #3642626Thanks so much everybody for the feedback and pointers. I’m clearly new at this posting thing and just really happy people perhaps have an interest in this. Generally, I’m a 5-10 mile a day kinda person. I try and go for trips in Vermont and Maine. I find new hampshire to be quite crowded any trailhead you go to even on winter trips. Last 2 nighter was a trail work weekend with the green mountain club in November. Anyway, hope this helps and I look forward to meeting folks who share my interests. Take care, Paul.
Apr 22, 2020 at 9:14 pm #3642635Congratulations on our sobriety. You are not alone. I’m 63yo from minnesota 8 years sober. 1 day at a time. About your speed at up to 10 miles a day most trips. This year 1st 2 weeks in august headed to the beartooths in montana for some time on an off ‘The Beaten Path’ (fishin) I Have a group of 3 hikers for a 6 day trip. I will do some Short trips on the superior hiking trail in minnesota also. Hit me up if you want to get to know each other. Maybe we can plan something in the future. Adventure is good for the soul.
All the best
Paul
Apr 23, 2020 at 7:29 pm #3642811Hey Paul! Congratulations on 8 years my friend!! That’s amazing. The backcountry has always been a part of who I am since I was 17 and I went on my first backpacking trip to joshua tree. It has always brought me joy and I’m delighted to have found some folks with similar interests. I couldn’t help but ask if you’ve seen the YouTube channel “Shug”? He does hammocking instructional vids and he lives in MN too. Again, it’s great to hear you’re doing well and gettin out there on some excursions. Take care, Paul S.
