    Hi there!

My name is Riley and I’m a twenty four year old woman from Toronto, Canada.
<p style=”text-align: left;”>I am planning to hike the Pacific Crest Trail during the summer of 2025. I grew up camping and portaging in Ontario’s provincial parks, and I miss the outdoors. I watched the movie Wild and have become obsessed with the idea of hiking the Pacific Crest Trail.</p>
However, I’m afraid to go alone and don’t have much experience backpacking. I’m looking for an experienced hiker who might be interested hiking the Pacific Crest Trail with me.

    Cheers!

You have some time… use it to get some experience with shorter trips and put together your gear/kit… it’s a BIG undertaking. Also… do some trips with companion candidates to see about compatibility… it’s not a small thing to get along with others on a long hike…

Facebook and reddit also have PCTA (pacific crest trail association) groups where you will get alot more responses about thru-hiking that trail. Have a great trip.

Great advice. Get some experience with varied trips of different lengths. You might even find that your priorities evolve. Perhaps you will discover that through hiking is not the be-all and end-all of backpacking, or you might find that you prefer to develop your own skills so that you aren’t dependent on someone to guide you.

And please be mindful of your safety, this approach seems very risky. I’d much rather find hiking partners through personal contacts or maybe a club, than by searching blindly on the internet.
