    Time for a new tent.

Looking for a long (for tall folks) 2 person external frame freestanding with vertical end walls.

    Whats out there?

    Thanks

    You described this:

    https://www.bigagnes.com/products/copper-spur-hv-ul2-long?srsltid=AfmBOortC6dbPbu1K3Yw9foKXBq2HBkAE9o_FwbiWAAkYxL30rcL-QgM

My wife and I have used various 2P Copper Spurs going back to when they were first introduced. We’ve owned other 2P freestanding tents like the MSR Hubba and Nemo Dagger, and none that we have tried has as much vertical wall space at the head end.

Thanks and I have looked at these and considered, but was hoping for an external frame tent.

External frame as in frame outside the fly? Why would you need this?

    It is what I prefer.

I already have this tent but it is slightly short. I may be able to modify it so the ends pull out more which I may do. I have this one but in green.

Sorry – I read your initial post and the “external frame” bit just didn’t register in my brain! Not sure why, but there it is.

What “height” are you?  Might help with an answer.

Also,  single wall, double wall, or either?

No, it’s a brand I’ve never heard of. I just put your requirements into a LLM and got a bunch of recommendations. I’m sure you can find it using a reverse image search.

The Big Sky International tent is what I own. Revolution 1.5 person.

The Big Sky Chinook 2p is longer and heavier and $800 new.

Like I said, it’s not that brand. Ok, I will do the search for you. Samaya.

Back in the day, there was the Bishop’s Ultimate tent, a Barry Bishop design that was first used on the 1963 American Everest Expedition. The 2 person version of the tent marketed later was a trapezoidal solid with a 5×7 foot base, a smaller rectangular top, and a well-fitted rain fly. The end and side walls were steeper than those of a dome. 10.5 pounds and freestanding.

I owned one. Lovely feeling of room, while the peak height was relatively low. A few times I measured the temperature differential within the tent 15 degrees Fahrenheit above the external temperature — with the rainfly on. The tent was stable in a wind.

The only picture I can find on the web is in the background of the third photo at https://www.nationalgeographic.com/adventure/article/historic-everest-expeditions-photo-gallery

I suspect that using modern fabrics and carbon fiber tubes instead of aluminum, the weight might be as low as four pounds. that tent would surely be expensive, but it would have the comfortable length sought. The Caffin tent would be a better alternative, albeit not free standing, because it is too tempting to forget the need for a tether with a free-standing tent..

Would the Zpacks Free Zip 2P work? The end walls aren’t fully vertical, but they’re nearly vertical toward the bottom of the canopy on both ends so that you have foot- and headroom for taller people.

If you have the Big Sky revolution 1.5 you could always just upgrade to the 2p, it should be 7 inches longer.  Or wait for the X-Dome.

    I somehow missed that.

    Two person Revolution it is.

I have settled on the Big Sky Revolution 2.

    Thanks
